独立IGTV应用于2018年宣布，旨在通过作为一个发布长篇垂直视频的地方跟YouTube展开对决。不到一年后，IGTV内容在Instagram主应用中得到了大力推广，视频显示在“探索”页面中，预览则显示在故事和主页面上。2020年，Instagram以很少有人使用为由取消了在主应用中访问IGTV内容的按钮。去年年底，该公司宣布IGTV被重新命名为“Instagram TV”，IGTV的一小时时间限制也将用于普通视频。
虽然IGTV应用和插入一分钟以上视频的In-Stream广告都将消失，但Instagram已经非常明确地表示，它仍然打算大力关注视频。
