Accompanied by the roar of bulldozers and excavators, at 10:16 on the 16th, the Laohuzui tunnel of Paimo Highway from Pai Town, Milin County, Linzhi City, Tibet Autonomous Region to Medog County was completed, 228 days ahead of the original schedule, marking that the duration was close. The Pai-Mo Highway, which was built in 7 years, is fully connected.

The 67.22-kilometer Paimo Highway crosses the Doxiongla Snow Mountain, along the Doxiong River through Khanmi and Laohuzui, to Beibeng Township, Medog County. The project is invested and constructed by China Huaneng Group. The estimated total investment of the project is about 2.015 billion yuan. It was approved to start construction in 2014 and is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic before the end of 2022.

The Paimo Highway crosses the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon and is constructed on the original trekking route from Pai Township in Milin County to Beibeng Township in Medog County. The elevation difference from the highest point to the lowest point along the way is 2892 meters. The climate is changeable and avalanches. Natural disasters such as landslides, landslides, and mudslides occur frequently, and the construction environment is complex. The construction personnel overcome difficulties such as water gushing, high in-situ stress, strong rock burst, and large deformation of surrounding rocks, and successfully completed the construction of the two major control projects of the Doxiongla Tunnel and the Laohuzui Tunnel.

Du Canxun, Secretary of the Party Committee of Huaneng Yajiang Company, said: “The Laohuzui tunnel with a total length of 2,114 meters passes through multiple seismic zones and adopts two-way tunneling. The Duoxiongla tunnel is 4799 meters long and is constructed with a double-shield hard rock tunneling machine. It was completed in December 2017. The exit of the tunnel is 3566 meters above sea level, and the elevation to Jiefang Bridge in Medog County is 680 meters above sea level, with an elevation drop of 2892 meters."

In the process of road construction, China Huaneng Group adheres to the concept of ecological priority and green development. The total investment in environmental protection and soil conservation has reached 110 million yuan, far exceeding the 75.39 million yuan designed in the environmental protection report. Also focus on the implementation of the "one corridor, two points and three belts" environmental protection improvement project.

Paimo Highway is the second traffic arterial road leading to Medog County after the Zhamo Highway from Zham Town in Bomi County to Medog County. After the highway is completed and opened to traffic, the length of the highway from Nyingchi City to Medog County will be reduced from the original 346 kilometers to 180 kilometers, and the travel time will be shortened by about 8 hours. By then, it will vigorously promote the development of tourism in Tibet and the revitalization of the countryside, and drive the people along the route to increase their income and become rich.
